Supporting your child’s education, wellbeing and safety

Free parent sessions

Dear parents and carers,

We warmly invite you to attend a series of important parent support sessions designed to help you better understand and support your child’s education, emotional wellbeing and safety.

These sessions will be delivered by Senior Education Advisers from Birmingham City Council and provide a safe, supportive space to talk, ask questions, and access practical advice. Together, we aim to support families and improve the life chances of young people across our city.

What will be covered?

These sessions will bring together key information and practical guidance on:

  • School attendance – why it matters and how to support your child when there are barriers such as anxiety, health needs, or other challenges
  • Managing behaviour and understanding school exclusions – recognising behaviour as communication and working in partnership with schools to prevent and respond to exclusions
  • Supporting your child’s emotional wellbeing – understanding trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and culturally sensitive approaches to behaviour and emotional support
  • Online safety – supporting your child to safely navigate social media, gaming, and the digital world
  • Wellbeing and community safety – recognising risks, supporting emotional development, and knowing when and how to seek help

We strongly encourage all parents and carers to attend. Your involvement plays a vital role in supporting your child’s success, wellbeing and future.

These sessions will run over 5 weeks starting on Wednesday 3rd June, at Firs Surgery, providing ongoing support and the opportunity to build confidence over time.
